How To Check If You're Qualified For A Work Visa Using The Point System

To have a higher chance of your visa being approved, you need to score at least 70 points in your application. 

  • Offer of job by approved sponsor: 20 Points. 
  • Job at appropriate skill level: 20 Points. 
  • Speaks English at required level: 10 Points. See how to prove this here
  • Salary of £20,480 (minimum) – £23,039: 0 Points. 
  • Salary of £23,040 – £25,599: 10 Points.
  •  Salary of £25,600 or above: 20 Points. 
  • Job in a shortage occupation (as designated by the MAC): 20 Points. 
  • Education qualification: PhD in subject relevant to the job: 10 Points. 
  • Education qualification: PhD in a STEM subject relevant to the job: 20 Points. 

Having a job offer from an approved employer for a skilled job and being able to speak English will give 50 points.

The applicant can achieve the remaining 20 points if they are due to be paid at least £25,600 a year.

They can also gain extra points for having better qualifications (10 points for a relevant PhD, or 20 points for a PhD in science, technology, engineering or maths) or an offer of a job in which the UK has a shortage (20 points), even if it doesn't pay as much money.


How to meet the requirement Of A Skilled Visa 

You must meet all of the following requirements to be eligible for a Skilled Worker visa: [Source

1. Your job is eligible for this visa. See list of occupation eligible for a skilled work visa here

2. You’ll be working for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office

3. You’ll be paid at least the minimum salary for the type of work you’ll be doing, Which is whichever is the highest out of the following 3 options:

  • £25,600 per year
  • £10.10 per hour

the ‘going rate for the type of work you’ll be doing

5. You should score at least 70 points. (see explanations above) 

Document For A Tier 2 Visa

These documents are to be presented to the embassy or immigration personnel for your Tier 2 visa to be processed. This process is after you have gotten the employment and have received your certificate of sponsorship. 
The documents are;

1. International passport
2. Passport photograph (35mm width by 45 mm length) (colored picture with white or Grey background)
3. Certificate of sponsorship: This is freely given to you by your employer. It costs about $1,000 but it's paid by your employer. It should contain your job title, name of employer, license number, address of employer, issuance date.
5. Bank statement
6. Tuberculosis test (N75,000)
7. Police certificate (N100,000) collect from police headquarter in Lagos or Abuja 
8. Transcript (optional) 
9. CV 
10. Accommodation receipt 
11. Visa fee receipt (less than 3 years, 464 pounds, more than 3 years, 928 pounds) 
12. NHS Surcharge {624 pounds per year, only submit photocopies)
